How to Change Steam Account Name

The differences between Steam Account Names, SteamIDs, and player names are confusing. Here's some clarification: a Steam Account Name is the name given to a Steam account, a SteamID is a unique numerical identifier for each user, and player names are visible on profiles, posts, comments, etc.

You may be wondering if changing your Steam Account Name is possible.

How to Change Steam Account Name

Your Steam Account Name, along with your SteamID, cannot be changed. You can only change your player name, which is the light blue font at the top right corner of your screen.

Here's how to change your player name:

1. Open the Steam app.
2. Click on your player name to open the drop-down menu.
3. Click on "View my Profile."
4. If you haven't set up a profile yet, click the green "Setup Steam Profile" button on the page that appears. If you have a profile set up already, click on the "Edit Profile" button near the top of the screen.
6. In the "Profile Name" field, enter a name.
7. Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the screen.

A confirmation message won't appear, but your changes are automatically applied. You should see your new player name at the top right corner of the screen.
